SyncParty, a WellCrafted Technologies product · Last updated 11 June 2026
The short version: SyncParty has no accounts, no
tracking, and no ads. Party data lives in server memory only while your party is running
and is gone minutes after everyone leaves. Voice and video go directly between
participants — they never pass through our servers.
What SyncParty stores, and where
- Display name and avatar color — stored in your browser's extension
storage so they persist between parties. Sent to our server only while you're in a
party so other members can see who you are.
- Party state — the room code, which video the party is watching,
playback position, and members' display names are held in server memory to
keep everyone in sync. Nothing is written to disk or a database.
- Chat messages — relayed through the server and kept in memory
(most recent 200) so people who join mid-party can see recent chat. They are deleted
with the party.
- Layout preferences — sidebar position and collapse state, stored
locally in your browser only.
A party and all of its data are deleted from memory roughly five minutes after the
last person leaves, or immediately when the server restarts.
Voice & video calls
Calls are peer-to-peer (WebRTC): audio and video streams travel directly between
party members and are end-to-end encrypted by the WebRTC transport. Our server only
relays the small connection-setup messages needed to establish the call — it cannot see
or store your audio or video.
What SyncParty does NOT do
- No user accounts, registration, or passwords.
- No analytics, advertising, fingerprinting, or tracking pixels.
- No reading of your streaming-service credentials, watch history, or browsing
outside the party tab.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of any data with third parties.
Permissions the extension uses
- Streaming-site access — to show the party sidebar and synchronize
the video player on supported sites (Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+,
JioHotstar, HBO Max, Hulu, Zee5, SonyLIV). The extension only activates when you
start or join a party.
- Storage — your display name, color, and layout preferences.
- Tabs — to connect the extension popup with the tab you're
watching in.
- Microphone / camera — only if you join a voice or video chat,
always behind the browser's own permission prompt, and switchable off at any time.
